Weather and Smoke Policy
Nevada County has a fire season and a rainy season. Outdoor bookings on Sierra Wander follow one clear rule set so nobody is guessing on the morning of.
Smoke
If the AQI at the meeting point is 150 or higher (Unhealthy) two hours before start, the activity is cancelled. Source: AirNow.gov or PurpleAir for the nearest sensor. Between 101 and 150 the host decides and may shorten or move the route. Guests may cancel for a full refund at 101 or higher.
Fire and evacuation
Any Red Flag Warning covering the route, any active evacuation warning or order in the area, or any road or trail closure that affects the plan cancels the activity. Full refund.
Rain, snow, heat, lightning
Light rain does not cancel a hike, tour or class. Thunderstorms, lightning, snow on the route, or a forecast high over 100F at the start time cancel outdoor activities. Indoor classes run regardless of weather.
How a cancellation works
The host messages you through the site and by the phone number on your booking as early as the call can be made, and always before the start time. You choose a full refund or a free reschedule to any open date. The 48 hour cancellation window does not apply to weather and smoke cancellations.
Stays
Stays are not cancelled for weather. If an evacuation order covers the property, the stay is refunded for the affected nights.
